How a Stylist Elevates Your Professional Photoshoot
A behind-the-scenes look at how expert styling transforms vision into confident, polished images.
Understanding the Client and Their Brand:
Before the shoot, I have to understand the client’s vision, style preferences, and the story they want to communicate. This includes understanding the brand’s aesthetic, target audience, and any specific messaging that the photos need to convey.
Creating a Cohesive Wardrobe Plan:
Based on the inspiration and objectives, I will then get to work curating outfits that align with the client’s brand colors, personal coloring and body shape. I will also work with the photographer to create a shot list or moodboard so that I understand what kind of styling will work best for each shot.
For instance…a close-up shot on a clients arms as they are holding a book or typing at their computer will require more thought on fabric and any detailing. I will also know to discuss nail colour and jewellery with the client too.

After much discussion between myself and the client, a purchasing board will be sent to them to order. When the pieces arrive, we will have a virtual try-on session to ensure we are happy and any alterations needed can be arranged.
From there, I will create the styleboards, which will become part of the shoot-day directive to ensure the right outfits are worn for the right scenes and the outfit changes go smoothly for the client. It also helps the make-up artist in choosing the right shades of lip colours and decide which hairstyles work best for the outfit.
Shoot Day: Collaboration with Photographer and Creative Team:
On the day of the shoot, I will work closely with the photographer, makeup artist, and creative team to ensure every outfit, accessory, and detail looks flawless on camera. This includes adjusting garments, layering, and fine-tuning styling in real-time, to suit lighting, poses, and composition.
Where Vision Becomes Reality I’m always thrilled by the moment the final images are delivered and clients see their vision fully realised. There’s something incredibly special about watching inspiration come to life and knowing the story we set out to tell has been captured beautifully. This shoot was nothing short of epic - set in the most stunning house in Devon, bathed in soft October light, with an unexpected 22-degree warmth that made the day feel effortless, joyful, and truly unforgettable.
